Our fitness programme
End of season - October
We try to keep the horse ticking over during the winter months. They are out during the day unless the weather is particularly bad.
Mr T gets schooled once or twice a week with a couple of long hacks at the weekend. I lunge him if I am short of time.
Morning will usually only get worked at weekends and in the school holidays.
We may do a few indoor shows just to keep them on the ball and any clinics that come along.
Spring (March)
The Hunter Trial season begins which is a good way of getting them fit for the coming season.
We usually hire a cross country course before comepeting.
We will give them some fast work before a competion around theis time of year while the groud is soft.
Summer
It can be difficult to do any fast work once the ground gets hard so we try to go down to the beach or on the downs for this.
Once they are competing on a regular basis they will become competition fit and will tick over quite nicely from once competition to another.
Generally we try to give them a variety of work so they don't become stale or bored. I often school while out using the lanes for leg yielding etc. and the marsh for canter work, tranisitions etc.
